Whenever I’m tasked with purchasing a new gantry crane for use in a port, I make sure to get all of the technical specifications of the port. This is because no two ports are the same, and certain ports have quite distinctive features that make it difficult to be compatible with various gantry cranes. Hence, I have realized through my years of experience that simply having a high-quality gantry crane isn’t enough, you need to actually make sure that it is compatible with the port that you’re managing.
Usually, getting the details of the port where the gantry crane will be installed involves talking to the management of the company. Usually, management will have all of the necessary documents that outline all of the technical facts about the port. Furthermore, management will often have access to developers and engineers that are specialized in all of the technical analysis required to ascertain what gantry crane will be best for the port. Thus, usually when I need to get a new gantry crane, the first thing I do is make a call to management.
Once I have all the information available about the port where the gantry crane is going to be installed, I can begin talking to suppliers and manufacturers about the various port gantry cranes that they have on offer. Seeing as now I have the technical requirements, I am easily able to communicate with these businesses so that they can quickly help me find the right crane for the job. These businesses are eager to make a sale, so I’m always a little bit careful to always take their advice and recommendations with a grain of salt.
Usually, I’ll be in contact with a dozen different suppliers and manufacturers for the perfect port gantry crane that I have been tasked with purchasing. I will go through a number of different processes that include having high-potential cranes testing and inspected to see whether or not they are worth purchasing. Furthermore, I will haggle with the businesses to see if I can lower their prices down to a level that will thoroughly impress management.
It’s through the above two processes that I have been able to successfully secure high-quality port gantry cranes for a number of different projects I’ve worked on. It’s a great feeling to be able to identify and purchase an absolutely excellent port gantry crane for a price that is very competitive, leading to praise from management.
